Planar instruments are earthen hardware instruments. A continued exploration of personal tool-age that opposes the direct response paradigm of the tools around us today, instead operating in ambience. The angled rotary control emulates the instrument’s materiality in the process of its silent morphology on a ceramics wheel. The paired audio landscape runs in Max MSP where each instrument’s embedded electronic chip adjusts a gradient of forces that would trigger the rate and variations of notes. The composition itself is inspired by Brian Eno’s Thursday Afternoon.
